“Did you always want to be an artist?” One of my students, in almost every class I teach, asks this question of me. My answer, “I think so.”
My first recollections were of drawing. I don’t remember telling people that I wanted to be an artist. I just loved drawing. At times, it was almost all I could think of. My favorite book was a drawing book by Andrew Loomis titled – Fun With a Pencil. My best friend, Matthew Stavrowsky, was better at drawing than I was and it drove me crazy. We spent hundreds of hours drawing together. Matt is still my best friend and teaches animation in Austin, Texas. His father, Oleg Stavrowsky, is one of our country's most prolific and powerful western painters. Oleg’s work gave me goals and started me toward painting when I was just a cub.
